Featured in January 1998, 50th anniversary issue of HOT ROD MAGAZINE© In October, 1947, at the last SCA speed trial of the season at El Mirage, Regg Schlemmer showed up with his `27 T Roadster and set a new Class C roadster record of 136.05 M.P.H. His timing couldn't have been better to make the cover of the first HOT ROD magazine © (January `48) and became immortal in the world of rodding. Schlemmer was a speed shop owner from Southgate, California and an accomplished engine builder. The car was a track roadster with a few modifications including a modified exhaust and a cockpit tarp. The frame was an Essex, the body a `27 T with a hand formed aluminum front end and what looks like a Kurtis midget grill. The motor was 268 cubic inch Mercury V-8 with Evan's heads and manifold, a Smith & Jones cam, and a duel Wico magneto. |
